what it do?

Hey all,

sorry for the lack of updates - hella college ish going down.

It's good. "Gold Lion" hauls.

Some of you have been asking about Girl Talk. Basically I have had to put everything on hold until the Student Council decides what band they think is best -- this meeting is set to happen in the next few weeks. Tommy Goodwin usually throws some names out.

Please,
please, TALK to your class reps and spread the album to anyone who wants it. Ultimately, it seems that if there is overwhelming student support for it, we will be able to put up the money, and find a way to cover the gap.

Once again: Girl Talk - The Night Ripper

ht

by the way: I just listened to the new Jay-Z. my recommendation: don't even think about it.

wamp wamp deux

Hot Damn, this album will Light Your Ass On Fire.

wamp wamp! (clipse post)

I'm going to be honest, I went to see the Rapture instead of Clipse at the Riottt Festival. That said, this album is wayyy better than the new Rapture crap.

My favorite Clipse tracks are still the three form the Neptunes "...Clones..." album. I am doaluping Clones right now, so be sure to check back, yall!

today's girl talk update: Got preliminary OK from SP.

Monday, November 13

oh my god. get stoked!

On 11/12/06, HT wrote [to girltalk]:

Hi Gregg,

There are a few things I want to cover, and I figure you get a ton of emails - so imma get to it.

1) I am a 17 year old high school senior from San Francisco. I put nightripper up on my music blog a while ago - and it is starting to blow up at my school. a bunch of us were there at Riott.

a. I hope you don't get too many "aww dude what the fuck" emails, because in my opinion, 10 minutes of total party was way better than the 30 of not party.

a1. My little brother, who is in fifth grade, and was there with me -- tried to hop the fence... got rejected by a security guard... and proceeded to look me in the eye and say "this is awesome!"

b1. also. It's actually ironic that your set, which was the most similar to the "one shall rise" / "Be A RIOTTT" slogans of the festival, was the one that got capped. I guess people were covering the Scion logos.

2) So, what we were thinking about on the bus ride home, was how we could maximize our--and maybe the bay area's--girltalk exposure.

first idea: truck down to LA on the 13th of January to see you there. issue: we won't be 18 at the time of the show.

second idea: actually host you at one of our houses and have an insane party. (so yea, my school actually has a big party where they bring in local artists - a few years ago we had Zion-i)

I hit us that nothing will ever happen if you, personally, aren't somewhat into the idea of making our lives. We know that you are super busy, but we like you, a lot, and that's worth something right?

write back?

<3 harry

(writing for nion, roxanne, johnny, elliot, and little brother jack, and others too)

____________

YOO all,

thanks for coming out!

it was horseshit, them cutting me off and all, but like you said, 10 minutes of a party is better than 30 minutes of not a party. so i really enjoyed, just pissed that some people paid $30 to get in there and only got 10 minutes. but yeah, i still had a blast

don't know what to tell you about the 18+ thing

if interesting in booking at your high school, which i'm totally down with (my schedule is just a little filled though), i have a guy who handles my booking: sam@windishagency.com . he can help you out if interested

again, thanks for coming out!

Gregg

request and some

I was arguing with myself whether or not to put this up. My initial recaction to this album was that it was the same old "hyper-literate" portland bull from the Decemberists; but, I'd be lying if I said it hasn't grown on me. Whoever requested it pushed me over the edge I guess.

The Decemberists - The Crane Wife

This album is untouchable.

Two: Cam'ron - Purple Haze

Three: Ali Farka Toure - Savane

This is probably the first "risky" album I have put up, in the sense that it isn't really for everyone. It's fairly intense African blues. All I know is it's not like anything else I've heard.

coming to a house party near you soon...

Girl Talk - Night Ripper

Okay, today's album is pretty tight -- props to Ben Z. for bringing it to my attention.

Basically you are looking 42 minutes of pure violent mashup dominance.* It feels as if every hit of the past 4 years makes a refreshing, and somehow "new sounding" appearance. The listener is left asking him or herself "was that Young Jeezy over Phantom Planet?" and "is it OK that I think 'Juicy' sounds great paired with sped up Elton John?!"

So yea, give it a listen, in order, all the way through -- workable link

rapidshare backup

* Everyone and their moms (aparently some 164 separate artists) are jammed into the 16 hard hitting and clean tracks. Here are some I jotted down: ludacris, david banner, that knuck if you buck shit, o-o child by the five stairsteps, the ying yang twins (vs. the verve's bittersweet symphony), nirvana, the notorious big, nas, madlib beats, that laffy taffy song, snoop, kayne, ti, jay-z, j dilla, manfred mann?!... etc.
