Deep Thoughts
So I was watching TV (youtube) and I saw the commercial (below) for the nth time.
note: a more recent bravia commercial, although a blatant rip off of kozyndan (dirty!), is also awesome, and can be viewed here.
I remembered that the track was actually the José González cover of the Knife's "Heartbeats" (below).

note: I like the latest youtube comment on the video...
Good call. This version (I know it's the original but that REALLY doesn't matter at all) is pretty terrible and Gonzales' version is just infinitly better.
I think a lot of people are saying they prefer this because it's the original and they're just trying to look cool.

It's Wintertime: the most beautiful + saddest music you could ever dream of.
"Justin Vernon moved to a remote cabin in the woods of Northwestern Wisconsin at the onset of winter. Tailing from the swirling breakup of his long time band, he escaped to the property and surround himself with simple work, quiet and space. He lived there alone for three months, filling his days with wood splitting and other chores around the land. This special time slowly began feeding a bold, uninhibited new musical focus.
The days slowly evolved into days filled with twelve-hour recording blocks, breaking only for trips on the tractor into the pines to saw and haul firewood, or for frozen sunrises high up a deer stand. All of his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss and guilt that had been stock piled over the course of the past six years, was suddenly purged into the form of song. The end result is, For Emma, Forever Ago, a nine-song album comprised of what's been dubbed by those most familiar with his music: Vernon's best work to date."
"For Emma, Forever Ago" has been on repeat for the last 3 weeks. I usually end up having to drop everything when the middle third of the album rolls around. My hands down (tied for first) favorite album of the year.
Please try this album out, and then buy it when it is released by Jagjaguwar in the next few months.
you can stream the entire album here.

the bad plus
Bloggers tend to hate on The Bad Plus. They come on strong with this whole "they are only popular because they look like their fans" deal.
I dunno. I like them, hella. Judge (or don't judge) for yourself.

I like to rock, rock.
I realized that two Hot Chip albums were way better than one. It is also my belief that "The Beach Party" is one of the best hookup songs out there. So yea, I have rationalized this post.
(hot chip will break your legs)
total fave:
Hot Chip - The Warning
from the message board where I got the album art
guy: does anyone else think the cover art is overtly sexual
other guy: you need a girl, dude

its been a while; but, its also been a nuts last three weeks, if that's any solace.

back
So, someone asked for the new B.I.G. album. I looked at the track list, and honestly, there isn't anything on "Greatest Hits" that you'd want that isn't on the two albums he released around the time he was alive.
The Notorious B.I.G. - "Life After Death" (2CDs) (1997)
password: www.rapgodfathers.com
If you already have those, "Blue Eyes Meets Bed Stuy," is a good, extravagant, mashup of Frank Sinatra and Frank Wallace. Most of the tracks are actually right on--its equally savage and cringeworthy to hear Biggie over twinkling piano. What can I say, I like it.
screw cochella
The sad truth is that none of us are going to Cochella. Yes, I know, it was fun to talk about for a little, but it just isn't happening. The San Francisco ≠ Indio part of the equation and the $700 trip total just didn't work out.
GOOD NEWS. Rock The Bells (SF, Aug. 18) is going to kill it.

Peep this lineup
It's not clear who is playing where outside of NY; but yea, DOOM, Murs, The Roots, Ghost + Wu Tang, etc.

Jaylib, Papercuts, Beach House, and Girl Talk update
Jay Dee + Madlib = Jaylib. CS marries Dilla's soulful driving beats with Madlib's mathy cosmic perfection. The two of them compiled the album by sending tracks back and forth between LA and Detroit. This is one of my absolute favorite albums, and I hope you like it too.
Sounds like: Nothing else.
