NEW WEEZY

Lil Wayne - The Leak EP

Backstory: so these songs--purportedly from The Carter III--have been floating around the internet for a minute now. Weezy decided to bundle them up in an internet only digital release (see itunes, amazon). The studio album is now slated for a Feburary release, due in part to the leaked material.

Deep Thoughts

So I was watching TV (youtube) and I saw the commercial (below) for the nth time.

note: a more recent bravia commercial, although a blatant rip off of kozyndan (dirty!), is also awesome, and can be viewed here.

I remembered that the track was actually the José González cover of the Knife's "Heartbeats" (below).

note: I like the latest youtube comment on the video...

Good call. This version (I know it's the original but that REALLY doesn't matter at all) is pretty terrible and Gonzales' version is just infinitly better.
I think a lot of people are saying they prefer this because it's the original and they're just trying to look cool.

Which reminded me that I meant to post the Knife's "Deep Cuts" (2003).

It's Wintertime: the most beautiful + saddest music you could ever dream of.

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

"Justin Vernon moved to a remote cabin in the woods of Northwestern Wisconsin at the onset of winter. Tailing from the swirling breakup of his long time band, he escaped to the property and surround himself with simple work, quiet and space. He lived there alone for three months, filling his days with wood splitting and other chores around the land. This special time slowly began feeding a bold, uninhibited new musical focus.

The days slowly evolved into days filled with twelve-hour recording blocks, breaking only for trips on the tractor into the pines to saw and haul firewood, or for frozen sunrises high up a deer stand. All of his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss and guilt that had been stock piled over the course of the past six years, was suddenly purged into the form of song. The end result is, For Emma, Forever Ago, a nine-song album comprised of what's been dubbed by those most familiar with his music: Vernon's best work to date."

"For Emma, Forever Ago" has been on repeat for the last 3 weeks. I usually end up having to drop everything when the middle third of the album rolls around. My hands down (tied for first) favorite album of the year.

Please try this album out, and then buy it when it is released by Jagjaguwar in the next few months.

you can stream the entire album here.
